5-Minute Insight: Letting Go in 2026,Part 1-Perceived Limitations

New Year's Eve might just be my favorite holiday.

Fireworks

Parties with friends

Toasting the New Year

Singing “Auld Lang Syne”

and

NO GIFTS TO SHOP FOR!!

But before we can start a joyous New Year, let's first resolve to say goodbye to the beliefs that held us back in the past. In the spirit of “out with the old”, there are 4 P's that I propose we let go of, and I'll be covering these in the next few posts. The first P is:

Perceived Limitations

Questioning our self-limiting beliefs can open up new areas of growth and opportunity, allowing us to accomplish more, live fully and achieve our dreams.

Here are some examples of how to let go of limiting thoughts and replace them with curiosity and a positive mindset:

table with questions to challenge perceived limitations.

Notice that we're replacing each self-limiting statement with a question. It's this curiosity that opens our world and allows us to dream bigger and play bigger.

Next time you find that you're second-guessing your ideas, editing your dreams, or saying no to something new, examine what you're telling yourself.

Ask yourself:

“Do I know this to be true? What would I miss out on if it's not true?”

“Is there a different, more positive way to look at it?”

And finally, (and this takes some courage)

“Is this thought an excuse to avoid risk or action?"

Then challenge yourself to replace the old thought with a new, more positive one.

For example, “I'm not good at X” becomes, “I'm not good at X yet, but I can get better.” “I could never do that” becomes, “I'll take some small steps and then decide what to do next.”

You'll be amazed by the power of these small tweaks to the language you use to speak to yourself.  Here's to letting go in 2026!
